The Hackthon events has come to Finnish industries, thanks to IndustryHack’s efforts! Team Linja is exited and honoured to have been involved in this awesome event. For me, and probably most people, the word “hackathon” is closely related to information and communication (ICT) context. And in fact, there were 10 great teams from top of the ICT industry that participated this contest. So how could Linja, a design team, make a dent in such a technology-oriented event?
At Linja we put the user at the centre of any project we participate – after all, every system that involves human efforts aims to assist and elevate the users’ capability. This as a mindset in which Linja firmly believes, is a unique advantage of our team. As in our many other projects, we adopted human-centered design processes in #hackthemaintenance. We attempted to find out the real problem in maintenance not by diving straight into the “hacking”, but through discussions and interview with experts in the field.
With this user-centred process we were able to tailor-make solutions to answer to the real problems in Konecranes’ maintenance service. To effectively communicate our design proposals, we prototyped an arm-mounted device for the field technicians, illustrated key user-interfaces and directed an use-case video. Our effort was much appreciated by both the host and our fellow competitors. As a result, we got 3rd prize of #hackthemaintenace. Linja can hack!
